For the last five years we have been dealing with our youngest son having a crossed eye. The ophthalmologist has been watching it very closely and hasn't been concerned about it for the past few years until this year. The eye has crossed more than double from what it has been previously. He has determined that he must now perform surgery to straighten the eye. Our son will be put under and then have the inside muscle detached from the eye then reattached further back to allow the eye to turn out. Our son is only seven years old and the thought of him being put under general anesthesia is stressing me out. He will be having the surgery performed on April first. This procedure is a same day surgery and he will be going home shortly after he wakes up. I will be staying with him as far as I am allowed. I know I won't be allowed in the operating room, but I do want to be with him until he goes to sleep.
I do admit to all of you, I am very scared about this whole thing. I know he will be all-right, but I still have the fear. I just can't lose my little boy. I am worried about the anesthesia, I know that some people react adversely to it. He does have some medical issues that are always taken in to consideration when he receives any medical attention. So, you can imagine why I have my fears.

We just found out yesterday afternoon, that the doctor will be doing surgery on both of our son's eyes. We knew that both eyes were turned in but I didn't realize the the left eye would need to be corrected now also. Oh well, may as well get everything taken care of now.

The surgery went just fine and our son's eyes are straightened out now. This is one thing I hope I never have to go through ever again. The anticipation was horrible, and the uncertainty of how he was going to react to the anesthesia was giving me constant heartburn. I'm just glad everything is done. I am keeping him home from school the rest of this week, just to avoid anything happening accidentally due to other kids.
OMG, being a parent is nerve racking sometimes.

About one week after our son's surgery, we noticed a white bubble like spot near the inside corner of his left eye. Well, I made an appointment with the surgeon to find out if this was an infection. The spot has some medical term, that I can't remember, but it is caused by the sutures that are used to reattached the muscle to the eye. However, this only happens with cat gut sutures. The new type of sutures that are used are suppose to prevent this problem. This problem has not happened since the '70's. Our son is the first recorded case of this since the '70's. The Doctor cannot explain why it happened either. We go back again May 9th to see if the spot has grown. The Doctor said that the spot normally will dissipate and we won't have any worries. However, if the spot grows, which it appears to be doing, then it needs to be cut off. Nothing normal ever seems to happen to our family. Oh well, we will do whatever is neccessary to make sure our kids are healthy and safe. If life is actually a test, then I think I'm failing.

I forgot to update about our son's eyes. When we went back to the eye Doctor, we found that the bubble on his eye has disappeared now. So, this problem has rectified itself and also our son no longer requires glasses. However, since the last doctor visit we have noticed that his right eye has turned outward and appears to be staying like that. We are going back to the doctor this Friday to see what can be done to take care of this. I am hoping that all that needs to be done is he will need glasses again. If surgery is required then we will deal with that again.
